A new annual celebration that recognizes the craft and contribution of film and television editors around the world.

Beginning in 2026, and recurring every year on October 26, WORLD SCREEN EDITORS DAY will bring together editors and editor associations internationally to celebrate the craft of editing, foster connections within the editing community, and highlight the often unseen work that shapes the stories audiences see on screen.

What began as an idea from one editor has grown into a worldwide celebration. The initiative was first proposed by Subhajit Singa from India, who reached out to TEMPO with a vision of creating a day dedicated to screen editors everywhere.

Embraced and developed by TEMPO’s Special Task Force, the idea evolved into a collective international initiative.

After considering several possible dates, the group chose October 26, the anniversary of TEMPO’s founding, as a meaningful occasion to celebrate the community, collaboration, and shared passion that brought the federation together.

TEMPO member associations will mark the day in ways that reflect their own communities and cultures.

Activities include:

• Bringing editors together to connect in person through a meetup, shared film screening, masterclass, panel discussion, or other event;
  
• Recognizing a colleague who has gone above and beyond in supporting, mentoring, or promoting the craft of editing, including through an award or special recognition;
  
• Sharing the craft online, with editors invited to give audiences a glimpse behind the scenes by sharing timelines, workflows, editing setups, or other insights into the creative process.

Throughout WORLD SCREEN EDITORS DAY, TEMPO member associations will also participate across social media, helping create a shared international celebration and giving editors around the world a common visual identity for.

TEMPO invites film and television editor associations around the world to participate in the inaugural WORLD SCREEN EDITORS DAY on October 26, 2026, and to make the celebration their own.
