Editors in the Spotlight: Highlights from the 7th Edition of Les Monteur·euses s’affichent

July 14, 2026

From March 11 to 16, 2026, LMA (Les Monteuses et monteurs associés – France) welcomed curious members of the public, students, and professionals for the 7th edition of its biennial festival, Les Monteur·euses s’affichent (Editors in the Spotlight), of which TEMPO was a partner.

Approximately 850 people attended the festival, and each of the two roundtables attracted nearly 100 participants. The program highlighted films that had received only limited theatrical exposure, bringing them renewed attention and providing an opportunity to meet their editors. It was a wonderful chance to discuss editing methods with the directors and to share different perspectives on our craft. There was no jury and no awards ceremony at the end, but rather the pleasure of discussion, gathering together, and sharing a love of editing with the audience—along with slices of cake and a few drinks.

Almost all the selected films were made by international filmmakers or took place abroad—in Mongolia, Serbia, Lebanon, Tunisia, and elsewhere—revealing a kind of portrait of the world over the past two years and challenging our perspectives in light of current events. The short-film evening was another success, featuring documentaries, fiction films, and even a four-minute musical film filled with poetry and intelligence—something we sorely need in these difficult times!

As always, Sunday was dedicated to a meeting with an association of film editors from another country. It was an honor, and deeply moving, to welcome a delegation from the Irish Screen Editors (ISE) to Paris. We discussed our respective industries and shared ideas about our work and our approaches to professional associations. It was a wonderful moment of reflection, laughter, and friendship, celebrated with a poignant film about the Irish musician Dónal Lunny.

This edition was truly international and offered a glimmer of hope, reminding us of the importance of sharing perspectives, listening to diverse voices, and discovering new images, spaces, and sounds in order to nourish our minds, broaden our horizons, and learn from one another.

See you in 2028 for the 8th edition!
