From local to global – Filmediting masterclass

November 11, 2023 | Copenhagen, Denmark

This week-end masterclass for film editors will feature some of the greatest international film editors at the moment. Through in-depth interviews and demonstrations of their time-lines, Elìsabet Ronaldsdottir, Mikkel E.G. Nielsen, Yorgos Mavropsaridis and Michelle Tesoro will share their methods and tell us about how they began their editing journey working on local productions and then big international films. What are the similarities and differences and how do different directors work with the film editor?
Welcome to a two-day editing masterclass, where we will dive deep into the elusive art of editing.
Through sessions with renowned international masters of the craft we will examine and discuss the inner workings of their working methods and art. From the action blockbuster to the insisting independent arthouse film. How do you apply your sensibility and craft, when size of production, technical complexity, and artistic expression change? What are the pitfalls and pros when the budget and anticipation of returners rises? We will go behind the curtain and analyze the storytelling and the decisions taken to advance their film’s expressions. This is an exclusive masterclass for editors by editors, so join up and come and meet your fellow editors from around the globe, so we will be able to further advance our craft and language together.

In our masterclass we will meet Elísabet Ronaldsdóttir (John Wick, Atomic Blond, Deadpool 2), who went from Icelandic Tv-shows and features to Hollywood blockbusters. We will also speak to Mikkel E.G. Nielsen (Sound of Metal, The Banshees of Inisherin, A Royal Affair), who won the academy award for editing. Yorgos Mavropsaridis (Poor Things, The Favourite, Dogtooth) will also pay us a visit and talk about his incredible work with Yorgos Lanthimos. And our fourth guest will be Michelle Tesoro. Chicago native, her recent works includes Netflix’s hit limited series The Queen’s Gambit, Emmy-nominated series When They See Us and Godless, Sean Penn’s independent feature Flag Day and Bradley Cooper’s second directorial venture, Maestro, premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival As part of the masterclass, we will also have one or two panel debates, on important topics for editors. The full program will be announced here.
